Master of Science in Exercise Science

MVC Graduate Admission Requirements:
● Application for Admission.
● Earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
● Minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in all undergraduate coursework. If the student holds an earned graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, the graduate GPA may be used. Exceptions to this policy will be discussed on an individual basis and require the approval from the Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences and the Dean of Graduate Studies.
● Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. Acceptance to the institution will not be determined until all transcripts are received.
● An updated resume.
Additional Requirements and Information for International Students:
All international transcripts must be submitted to and evaluated by INCRED (preferred) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services member prior to admission.


MS EXSI Admission Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in an exercise science-related field with at least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent.
-or-
A non-exercise science bachelor’s degree with at least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent, completion of anatomy and physiology and exercise physiology courses recommended, exercise science certification(s), and 2 years of work experience in any exercise science decision-making role. Exceptions may be granted for applicants with significant work experience or strong academic backgrounds.
Early Access:
MVC undergraduate exercise science students with senior standing may take up to 9 credit hours at the graduate level. These hours will count toward the MS EXSI degree as well as the bachelor’s degree. A student must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of undergraduate classes each semester that he or she is taking MS EXSI credits under this option.

Mission
The Master of Science in Exercise Science program provides a personalized, student-centered education that prepares graduates with the scientific knowledge, practical skills, and professional experiences necessary for lifelong success in allied health and human performance careers.

Program Outcomes

1. Students will demonstrate knowledge in exercise physiology and how nutrition affects performance.
2. Students will demonstrate knowledge of how exercise and social factors impact the mental and physical well-being.
3. Students will effectively apply advanced strength and conditioning principles.
4. Students will demonstrate the skills necessary to improve the overall health and well-being of diverse populations.
5. Students will demonstrate the skills to prevent injury and how to restore function in the physically active.
6. Students will effectively apply business management principles related to the fitness and sports industry.
7. Students will demonstrate knowledge of fitness and health related challenges by reviewing the literature and presenting the findings.

Major Requirements

Master of Science in Exercise Science students must pass all major courses with a
minimum grade of “B”. A student is dismissed from the graduate exercise science program
when more than two “C” grades or more than one “F” grade are earned in graduate exercise
science courses. A student may appeal this dismissal, but readmission is at the discretion of
the program.
