Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Program Outcomes

The purpose of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Missouri Valley College is to prepare

competent, entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective

(behavior) learning domains for the following concentrations: Abdominal sonography,

Obstetrics/Gynecology sonography, and Vascular sonography.

 

1. Using imaging equipment for diagnostic procedures in concentration areas; effectively demonstrate

assigned clinical competencies.

2. Applying clinical reasoning and judgment skills to address common/acute problems that present to the

diagnostic medical sonographer generalist.

3. Demonstrating the skills and knowledge to provide safe care to diverse patient populations.

4. Connecting clinical signs and symptoms with pathological disorders.

5. Demonstrating professionalism, caring, and empathy while practicing sonography.

6. Recognizing the need for lifelong learning, self reflection, and self assessment to maintain

best-practices in the clinical setting.

General Education Courses

Students must complete the following required General Education courses.

  • HIST 104, HIST 105, OR POLS 100
  • ENGL 130 (Must receive a final grade of a "C" or higher)
  • COMM 100
  • BIOL 104 (Must receive a final grade of a "C" or higher)
  • MATH 150 or higher (Must receive a final grade of a "C" or higher)
